Being Busy Isn't Always Bad
This weekend, I had a full schedule and I mean FULL. Every second that the sun was up I was doing something productive. It has been a while since I was that busy, juggling work, and extracurricular activities. Even though the weekend itself was exhausting, it really filled me with a sense of purpose. I had to be thinking every moment about what I was doing which gave me no room to ruminate about anything negative. I would argue that sometimes being busy is actually better for your mental health.
Why is it better to be busy?
One of the most effective ways to curb negative feelings is a distraction. We use this all the time in techniques to calm a panic attack, or the urge to cut or to keep yourself from spiraling into a depression that you can’t get out of. When you already have built-in distractions it is easier to keep yourself in a better state of mental health. Now we all know that being too busy can cause issues on the other side. Being overwhelmed can also lead to negative health effects, so the trick is to have a healthy balance. For everyone this is different. Make sure you have enough to do to keep you busy or a project that you can work on when you are bored, but also make sure that you have enough time and energy to accomplish your tasks without getting overwhelmed.
