Soul Searching

Many of us have been confronted with more downtime than we are used to.  This can be a breeding ground for many different things. This time gives us the opportunity to think about all the things that are stressful in our lives.  Also, our giant to-do list could be tackled but we just can’t seem to pull ourselves away from our screens. I have been able to take this time to reflect on who I am, and where I truly see myself going in my life.

As a 30-something millennial, I know that many generations look at me and think that I am lazy, entitled and expecting my participation trophy (which for the record I have never been given).  Instead, I am looking at my future. My past is behind me, and I have no reason to look back. The same goes for you.

Are you in a place of uncertainty, or maybe you just have a little extra time on your hands?  Why not take a few minutes every day and do some soul searching. Here are a few ways that you can turn this time of isolation into a time of inspiration.

1: Spend time in prayer/meditation.

Our TV’s and phones are on 24/7 these days.  Take some time to turn off your screens, go into a quiet place,  turn on some light music and just be. Listening to yourself, and your thoughts can open up ideas and passions you never knew you had.

2: Think and step outside your comfort zone.

Not a lot of growth happens within our comfort zone.  Give yourself the freedom to dream! What do you wish you could do, how can you achieve that?  These are questions that scare us a little but help us to move forward.

3: Look at your environment.

Are you wanting to advance in your career, or change fields altogether?  Maybe this is a good time to look at those around us. Are you surrounded by people who don’t understand your dreams or people who wish you the best and want to lift you up?  Give yourself permission to identify and eliminate the toxicity in your environment.

4: Forgive yourself.

I don’t know a single person who doesn’t struggle with something from their past.  Many times these past traumas can create a wall that we refuse to breakthrough. Take time to forgive yourself and others so that you are no longer being held down by those feelings and are free to explore new ones.
