Dinner...Again!

Did you know that as a nation we go out to eat 4 to 5 times a week?  In a new socially distant world that makes it hard on many people who depend on our local restaurants to feed their family.  And yes, many restaurants are still open but we have to keep our distance, and watch our spending due to the uncertainty of our economy.

I, personally, don’t eat out often.  I love cooking because it’s a stress relief for me.  I do, however, understand that the idea of cooking every single meal of the week can be overwhelming.  That is why I want to share a few cooking tips with you to try and make this season a little easier.

Try to plan meals that can build off of each other.

You can buy an entire chicken and throw it in the crockpot on Monday.  And with the leftovers, you can make a casserole, chicken and noodles, or just an easy sandwich.

Meal prepping is important.

Take one day out of your week and prep all that you can ahead of time.  This will save you time and stress each day. An example of this is being able to brown two pounds of hamburger and turn one pound into taco meat, and another into spaghetti sauce.  Both of these are now done and ready to be reheated on the day you need them. Store them in Tupperware or a baggie in your fridge or freezer until you are ready for them.

MAKE A PLAN!

Right now is not the time to try and decide each day what you want for dinner.  This creates more trips to the grocery store and, honestly, more money spent. Sit down and make a list of every meal you plan to have that week and buy your groceries all at once.

Use your resources!

We are living in a time of endless recipes!  There are a million websites that offer you amazing recipes whether you want something quick and easy, a date night meal, or chili that reminds you of your moms.  You can find them online. Do not be afraid to type in exactly what you are looking for to make it easier for you.

Do not let cooking intimidate you.  If you don’t cook often just take your time.  Read through the entire recipe once or twice before you get started, set out everything you need ahead of time and just go step by step.  You may even discover how much you enjoy this art form! Think of this as a way to relieve stress, not as another stressor on your life.
