The Glad Game

The other day I walked into the living room and my roommate was watching Pollyanna. For those of you who have never seen Pollyanna, I would encourage you to check it out on Disney+. It's a movie that I grew up with and when I saw that she was watching it, I immediately thought of the “Glad Game” which is exactly what we need in this day and age. The idea of the “Glad Game” is that you have to find something good in whatever situation you are in. The game started when Pollyanna was sent a pair of crutches instead of a doll. Her father tried to get her to see the good in the situation, while she was disappointed about not having a doll, she could be glad that she didn’t have to use the crutches. I think there are a few lessons we can glean from Pollyanna and use in this unusual time in our history.

Find the good in people

Abe Lincoln once said, “if you look for the bad in people, you will surely find it.” So let’s try looking for the good in people.

Don’t think about dying, be grateful you’re living

What is the point of living in fear that you might catch this virus if it hasn’t happened? Take precautions, but don’t let fear rule your life. You will be much calmer and happier if you are thankful for the time you are given.

Do something useful with the time you have

We have been given a great gift. We have been given time without distractions. How can you use this time to your advantage instead of letting distractions take advantage of your time?

Be joyful

If you think you will have a bad day, you will. Try having a good day and find joy in the midst of anything that happens.

Start practicing the “Glad Game” in everything you do and watch how it changes your life.
