Autumn Self Care
If you are anything like me, you are starting to feel the effects of seasonal depressive disorder. The days are getting shorter and the weather has decided to hide the sun for weeks on end. As a result, my mood and my motivation have been going way down. However, I was reminded that every season has its own perks and special things that make the season one to remember. Here are a few ideas of things that you can make a plan to do during autumn that may bring you some semblance of joy!
Fun Fall Activities
Go visit a pumpkin patch - it is more fun to go pick your pumpkin in the great outdoors than in a grocery store.
Go to an apple orchard. Even if most of the apples are gone, there are usually other activities that you can participate in at such places, like drinking apple cider, exploring local jams and jellies, or walking through a corn maze.
Drink hot chocolate and hot tea. I love drinks that help warm you up from the inside when the weather is cold. There are so many different varieties of tea and you can doctor it up with milk and honey or sugar.
Go see a play! Theaters are officially open again and it’s a great night to spend with a friend or family member getting lost in a story presented to you through live entertainment.
Go visit an outdoor historical presentation, like Conner Prairie. They usually have fall-specific activities like the Headless Horseman show in October.
Go for a hike. Some of the best hikes you can take are when the leaves have all turned colors.
Visit a farmers market and go make some delicious soup! Nothing tastes better than food made from scratch. And the best way to make that food is to find ingredients that haven’t ridden in a truck for days to get to the grocery store. If you have never tried to buy locally before, give it a try and see if you can taste the difference.
Go to the Zoo. Many of the zoos will be closing for the winter season so take advantage of the final open hours of the fall and visit the animals!
Make a date night with your family to stay in with your fall treats and watch a fun fall-themed movie. There are many family-friendly movies to watch on Disney plus or if you are looking for something a little spookier, check out Hulu or Amazon Prime.
Those are just a few suggestions of things to do during this season to keep yourself in good spirits.
