The Importance of a Vacation

Next week I will be taking a vacation and I am so excited! Did you know that taking a vacation can have some major benefits to your health? I am serious. A good employee will know this and they will want you to use all of your vacation time. Let me lay out for you some of the reasons why you need to take a vacation.

Your physical health

We all know that our jobs can be stressful. Stress causes many negative reactions in your body. Some of these reactions you know about, tense muscles, loss of sleep, or appetite. These outward symptoms can manifest in other ways in the long term, like an increased risk for heart disease. Taking a vacation allows your body to reset. To find that extra hour of sleep when deadlines aren’t hanging over your head.

Your mental health

Did you know that simply planning a vacation can make you happy? Even months before you take the vacation, the prospect of getting away can give you something to look forward to and decrease your stress level. It will also give you a better outlook on life because you know there is more to life than work. There are things to explore and cool experiences you can be a part of outside of a 9 to 5.

Productivity at work

Taking a break from work actually helps with your motivation to achieve your goals. If you continually work and work and work you are going to experience burnout and not be able to perform your job effectively. If you take a vacation, you can find inspiration from experiencing something new which can help you come up with new ideas when you return to work. Stress can actually modify the part of your brain that is directly related to goal-achieving and can dampen your memory. If you take a break, your stress level goes down and your brain can heal to function the way it was designed.

Improved relationships

Taking a vacation with the family will give you great memories to look back on in times of strife. A vacation also helps you get away from the daily grind of washing dishes and doing laundry, all those little things that can nag at you or cause you to lash out at those you love.
